The Carlos Cougars survived two tight games with walk-off victories last weekend to remain undefeated in Resorters play.
The Cougars sent Long Prairie home disappointed with a game-winning RBI by Aaron Noetzelman last Saturday. It came one day after Carlos won a dramatic 10-inning game against Clarissa in a 5-4 game.
Long Prairie took an early lead on Saturday with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Cougars answered with lone runs in the second, fifth and seventh. The run in the seventh tied the game at three apiece. That is how it would go into extra innings before Noetzelman ended it in the 10th.
It was the second hit of the day for Noetzelman as he collected two RBIs to lead the offense. Joe Snaza also went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Snaza picked up the win on the mound with three strong innings of relief. He allowed just two hits and no runs, while striking out five.
Against Clarissa, it was the Cougars who took the early lead, only to see the Bombers storm back. Carlos jumped out to a 4-0 advantage with two in the second and lone runs in the fourth and seventh. Clarissa answered with four of its own in the top of the eighth.
The game went into the 10th tied at four before Carlos kept its perfect season alive with a lone run.
Nate Hoelscher was dominant through five innings as the Cougars’ starter on the mound. He was perfect, allowing no hits or walks and striking out 10. He would not factor in the decision, though.
Noetzelman had another big game with three hits, a run scored and two RBIs. Justin Steidl also put together a three-hit day with two runs scored.
Carlos moved to 12-0 with the two wins. The Cougars travel to Sebeka and Nimrod tomorrow, Saturday, for games against Richmond and Bluffton-EGF. First pitch against Richmond is scheduled for 11 a.m. They play again on Sunday in Nimrod against a team yet to be determined.
