Golf ralley will help fight against cancer

A golf rally in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is set at Alexandria Golf Course (AGC) next week.

A golf rally in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is set at Alexandria Golf Course (AGC) next week.

The AGC Women’s Auxiliary will host Rally for the Cure golfing events on June 23 and 24.

Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program to spread awareness of breast health and breast cancer through volunteer organized group activities.

In partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Condé Nast Publications, the AGC’s Golf Rally will provide cancer information and materials, prizes and fun to golfers. All proceeds from the event provide funding for the Komen for the Cure Foundation.

Events are planned for both men and women golfers. All men playing the AGC course on Tuesday, June 23, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. will have a chance to win a prize on hole 7 for the closest to the pin tee shot. Entry fee for the men’s closest to the pin competition is $5.

On Wednesday, June 24, the women will host a golf scramble. The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. with golfer sign-in and coffee and rolls in the AGC Mulligan’s Room.

The scramble will start at 8 a.m. Titleist golf galls bearing the pink ribbon breast cancer awareness symbol will be awarded to every woman player who hits the 13th green on the first swing. Many other prizes will be given in skill categories and by random drawings.

The $20 Rally for the Cure entry fee for the ladies golf event entitles participants to a subscription to a Condé Nast magazine of their choice, a Rally gift bag and a chance for all prizes. AGC will also have a luncheon and raffle and silent auction to raise additional money for the Komen Foundation. Raffle tickets can be purchased on June 23 and 24 at AGC.

Non-AGC members are welcome to participate in the rally. Greens fees for non-members are $45 in addition to the $20 Rally fee. Cart rental for each player is $17.20.

On June 24, a luncheon, costing $10.65, will follow the ladies golf event in the Tom Lehman Room at AGC. Non-golfers who want to participate only in the luncheon and silent auction should call Ruth Obert, Rally chairperson, at (320) 759-6571 to make reservations.

Those wishing to register for the ladies golf scramble should sign up by June 17 at the AGC pro shop.
