Both the Alexandria Red and Green VFW baseball teams have kicked off their summer seasons and are looking to build some momentum this summer that they can bring into the school season next year.
Eric Weedman returns to coach the Alexandria Green this summer, while Mitch Loch will look to lead Alexandria Red to another successful season after Alex Purple made a state tournament appearance last summer.
Both teams will once again host the Alexandria VFW Baseball Tournament this weekend. Alexandria Red, Delano and Fergus Falls will make up Pool A, while Alex Green, Cold Spring and Maple Grove round out Pool B in the tournament.
The tournament will be played at Knute Nelson Field. Alexandria Green will open up play on Saturday with a 9 a.m. contest against Cold Spring. Alexandria Red follows that game with their first game against Fergus Falls.
The first, second and third-place games will be played on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. The championship game is set for 3 p.m.
