Seminar offers employers advice on unemployment insurance

The Department of Employment and Economic Development will present a Minnesota unemployment insurance overview seminar.
It will take place Wednesday, June 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Alexandria Technical College, Room 209. Lunch will be served. The seminar is sponsored in partnership with the Alexandria Technical College and West Central MN SHRM. This program has been pre-approved for 3.5 (general) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
Wayne Johnson, unemployment insurance benefits specialist, and Gary Johnson, employer-agent liaison with the Unemployment Insurance Program at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, will discuss a broad range of unemployment insurance topics including:
•Unemployment benefits eligibility (quits, discharges, misconduct).
•Partial UI – Minnesota shared work program.
•Temporary and permanent layoffs.
•Employer online self-service system (with a focus on online benefits functionality).
•Filing an appeal or raising an issue.
•Covered vs. non-covered employment (owners, independent contractors, family, etc.).
•Tax rates and experience rating.
•Taxable wages.
•Submitting quarterly wage detail reports.
•Reporting unemployment fraud.
