Minnesota Senior Games in AlexandriaCompetition for ages 50 and older is being hosted by Lakes Area Recreation
Lakes Area Recreation (LAR) is looking forward to hosting the Minnesota Senior Games in Alexandria again this summer.
More than 400 athletes from several Minnesota cities and five different states are expected in Alexandria on July 20-24 to compete for state medals and try to earn the right to compete in the National Senior Games.
The senior games are for athletes age 50 and older. The athletes are broken up into nine different age divisions (50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-up) and will compete in 19 different sports for the Minnesota games. Those sports are archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, billiards, cycling, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, race walking, racquetball, road race, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Gold, silver and bronze state medals will be awarded in each age division.
The athletes will also have social activities to attend at night like a Burger King Whopper feed at City Park, an evening at Carlos Creek Winery sponsored by Humana and an athletes banquet for all athletes and guests.
Hosting the games requires several volunteers and LAR is asking for help. Those interesting in volunteering should call (320) 762-2868. Athletes looking to request a registration book be sent to them can also contact the same number. Registration can be obtained from the Minnesota Senior Games web site as well at www.mnseniorgames.com.
