Carlos improved to 9-0 with pair of Resorters wins

The Carlos Cougars’ offense continues to produce in large numbers as the Cougars improved to 9-0 with two more wins over the weekend.

Carlos and Miltona both came into Sunday’s match-up with unblemished records. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-2 lead through two innings, but a seven-run eighth inning propelled Carlos to a 12-6 win. The victory came one day after the Cougars jumped all over Clarissa in an 18-1 game.

Matt Hoelscher came on in relief of Mark Hillesheim in the first inning against Miltona and was able to give the Cougars a great performance on the hill. The Tigers scored four runs, only one earned, off of Hillesheim before he could get the second out. Hoelscher came on and picked up his teammate by throwing great the rest of the way. He scattered six hits and allowed two runs through the final 8 2/3 innings.

That allowed his team to get back in the game. That is exactly what they did when the Cougars tied the game in the seventh before blowing it open with the seven-run eighth. Justin Steidl got a bases loaded, two-run single in the inning. Joe Snaza then put the finishing touches on things with a bases loaded double that scored all three base runners.

The offense was also on full display against Clarissa on Saturday, while Ben Bruggeman stole the show on the mound. Bruggeman lost a no-hitter in the seventh inning as he worked all seven innings of the shortened game to pick up the win.

His offense gave him plenty of support with seven runs in the second inning. The Cougars scored at least once in every inning after that to add to their lead.

Ryan Severson had a three-hit day, with two doubles and five RBIs. Snaza, Aaron Noetzelman and Brad Nyberg each added two RBIs, as well.

Miltona and Carlos will play again this Friday when the Cougars host the Tigers on Friday night. First pitch is set for 8 p.m.
