Miltona still perfect in Resorters League with pair of baseball wins
The Miltona baseball team moved its record to 6-0 with two wins this past weekend.
The Tigers won a 13-2 game against Barrett on Sunday after a play at the plate resulted in a 4-3 walk-off win against Brandon on Saturday.
Andrew Rajdl got a lot of run support in picking up the win on the mound against Barrett. Rajdl threw five innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits. He was aided by 16 hits by the Tigers’ offense.
Derrick Swenson led the way with three hits, while Kevin Engebretson, Tom Steidl, Sam Steidl, Cody Curry and Mitch Kluver all recorded two apiece. Andrew McDaniel, Jake Leuschke and Tim Vanderwerf all collected a hit, as well.
Things did not come so easy for Miltona against Brandon. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first on Curry’s two-RBI single that scored Ryan Emter and Engebretson. They added one more in the fourth on a Kluver run.
A 3-1 lead for the Tigers would hold up until the ninth when Brandon scored twice to tie the game.
Kluver responded by drawing a walk in the bottom of the ninth. He then used his speed to steal second and third with one out in the inning. Engebretson stepped to the plate and delivered a line drive that was caught in left field. Kluver tagged up on the play and was called safe after the ball beat him to the plate but could not be held on to by the Brandon catcher.
That sent the Tigers home walk-off winners for their fifth straight victory to start the season. The win on Sunday extended that winning streak to six games.
Miltona will try to make it eight games this weekend. The Tigers travel to Urbank on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start before hosting another undefeated team in Carlos on Sunday. The Cougars will come into the game with a 7-0 record. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
