A run of 20 consecutive victories for the Minnewaska softball team came to an end on Tuesday night as Rocori handed the Lakers its first loss since April 9 in a 13-3 game in the second round of the Section 6AA playoffs.
Rocori was a tough second-round match up for the 20-1 Lakers. The Spartans came into the tournament champions of the Central Lakes Conference and sporting a 15-3 record.
Rocori jumped on Minnewaska with two runs in the second and one in the third. The fifth was the inning the Lakers could not overcome, though. The Spartans scored eight times in the frame, sending 12 players to the plate. That big inning ended the night early as Rocori picked up the win in five innings.
The Lakers had played well in almost every facet of the game leading up to the tournament. On Tuesday, their defense let them down as only five of the 13 runs Rocori scored were earned.
Laura Paulson took the loss in four innings of work. She allowed seven runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks. Seven players in the Minnewaska lineup recorded a hit. Abby Kreitlow, Paulson and Brooke Falk all collected an RBI.
The Lakers were to have played Paynesville yesterday, Thursday, in the elimination game of the Section 6AA playoffs in Eden Valley.

Lakers win opener
The Minnewaska softball team picked up right where it left off in the first round of the Section 6AA playoffs last Friday night.
The Lakers moved their winning streak to 20 games with an easy 10-0 win over Sauk Centre in five innings. The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings before Minnewaska broke the game open in the middle innings. The Lakers scored three in the third, two in the fourth and five more in the fifth to end the game early.
Abby Kreitlow had a big day out of the leadoff spot with two hits, including a triple and four RBIs. Her bases-loaded triple was the big blow in the five-run fifth inning. Jordan Stalker and Breanna Jenks each had two hits and two RBIs, as well.
Alicia Pfeninger took that offense and ran with it as she dominated the Mainstreeters lineup from the circle. Pfeninger allowed just one hit and struck out nine in the complete-game performance.
The Lakers moved to 20-1 with the win.
