Volunteers make tax clinic a success

West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc., (WCMCA) was able to provide a free tax clinic again this year in Douglas and Grant counties for the 2009 filing season.

West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc., (WCMCA) was able to provide a free tax clinic again this year in Douglas and Grant counties for the 2009 filing season.

This service was used by 261 tax clients.

Communities Action leaders send their appreciation to the 41 volunteers who dedicated their time to the tax clinic this year.

A total of 17 RSVP, 15 WCMCA staff and nine community members participated.

Their hard work and dedication helped to make the 2009 tax clinic a success, according to WCMCA leaders.

A total of 988 volunteer hours were dedicated. WCMCA collaborated with the Department of Revenue and Accountability Minnesota on the tax clinic effort.

The total refunds accessed were: earned income tax credit refunds – $108,155; working family credit – $25,628; K-12 education credit – $1,671; child care credit – $2,076; and federal and state refund – $359,328, an increase from last year.

West Central Communities Action, a resource agency, is dedicated to reducing the effects of poverty and assisting people achieve self-sufficiency, by improving the quality of their life.
