Cougars top Hawks in Resorters League baseball

The Carlos baseball team got locked up in a battle with Osakis before the Cougars prevailed in the 12th inning for a 4-3 win last Saturday.

Carlos led 3-1 after three innings, but the Hawks scored twice in the fourth to tie the game. That is how the game would stay for the next seven innings before Justin Steidl brought in the winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the 12th.

Matt Hoelscher was nearly flawless in six innings of relief work for Carlos. He earned the win after allowing just two hits and striking out five after three Cougar pitchers worked through the first six innings.

Mark Hillesheim started for Carlos and allowed just one hit, while striking out four in two innings. Joe Snaza also threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Ryan Severson led the Cougars’ offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Neil Jenzen and Steidl each had two RBIs on the day.

The win moved Carlos to 3-0 on the season.
