Tennis team blanks Apollo

The Alexandria tennis team won its seventh straight match on Tuesday night with an easy 7-0 win over St. Cloud Apollo.

Reggie Ronning made easy work of Ian Johnson at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Luke Eberly moved into the No. 2 singles spot as Connor Illies moved into the No. 1 doubles spot with Jake Otterness. Both players performed well as Eberly earned a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) win, and Illies and Otterness picked up a straight-set win in doubles.

“This group of guys really make my job easy,” head coach Dave Ronning said. “They will play most anywhere I ask them to and will give it their very best effort day in and day out.”

Matt Peterson and Ben LeVahn rounded out the singles lineup with straight-set wins at Nos. 3 and 4. Marvin Wensman and Kevin Desautels teamed up at No. 2 doubles to win 6-0, 6-2, while Cody Nelson and Thomas Williams won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3

The win moved Alexandria to 17-3 overall and 9-2 in the Central Lakes Conference.
