Erickson has four firsts at True Team meet

Six first place finishes gave the Cardinal girls third at Sauk Rapids

Behind six first place finishes – four from Rosey Erickson and two from Jamie Piepenburg – the Cardinals brought home third place honors from the Section 8AA True Team meet in Sauk Rapids last week.

Erickson contributed 108 team points with her four first places, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.71, the 200-meter dash in 26.36, the 400-meter dash in 1:00.20 and the long jump with a leap of 17-10.

Piepenburg’s two victories were also impressive as she dominated the distance events by winning the 1,600-meter run in 5:10.20 and the 3,200-meter run in 11:20.79.

Her time in the 1,600 meters was a personal best.

Those six performances are why the two Redbird athletes are on the State Class AA honor roll in each of those events.

Adding to the Cardinals’ success was a third place finish in the shot put by Mallory Stier, who lofted the shot for a distance of 33-5.5, and a third by the 4x800 relay team of Val Smith, Katie Iverson, Whitney Gesell and Tess Boucher with a time of 10:16.01.

Alexandria got a fourth place finish in the 3,200-meter run by Tess Boucher with a time of 11:56.61, and a fourth place in the triple jump by Annie Trebelhorn with a distance of 33-7.

Placing fifth was Chelsey Richardson in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:29.99, and a sixth place finish by Amber Tebben in the 100-meter dash in 13.40.

Joie Warnes was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 32-5.75, and the Cardinal 4x200 relay team of Kristin Egenes, Tebben, Keely Gross and Shannon Thoennes with a time of 1:56.52.

The 4x400 relay team of Chelsey Richardson, Whitney Gesell, Kristin Egenes and Jenna Larson was eighth in 4:35.12.

Trebelhorn also placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 4-8.

Personal bests were set by Nikki Swedberg in the 400-meter dash, Gloria Head in the 200-meter dash and the long jump, Trebelhorn in the triple jump, Val Smith in the pole vault, Nikki Hammond in the pole vault and Shannon Thoennes in the pole vault.

Alexandria will be in Sauk Rapids tomorrow, Thursday.
