Foster brothers compete in state chess event
James and Kagan Foster of Alexandria recently participated in the 2009 Minnesota State Chess Championships in the Twin Cities.

Kagan, a 5th grade student at Lincoln Elementary School, won five of seven games, earning him 43rd place out of 275 competitors in the 4-6 grade division.
In the kindergarten-3rd grade division, James earned an invitation to the “Tournament of Champions,” where the 16 best players battle for the designation of Minnesota state champion. James, a 2nd grader at Voyager Elementary School, won three of four in the sweet 16, losing only to the third highest rated player in the nation and eventual state champ, Andrew Teng. James lost tiebreakers to the other two 3-1 players to end up 4th in the state.
James and Kagan are the sons of Sean and Shelli-Kae Foster of Alexandria.
