It was a tale of two games as the Alexandria baseball team split a doubleheader with Brainerd at Knute Nelson Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals looked like a different team from one game to the next. The opener saw them play flawless defense behind starter Shawn Krueger to pick up a 5-1 win. They committed six errors in the nightcap, though, as the Warriors handed them a 9-1 loss.

Derek Miller got the start in game two. He lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up eight runs. Only one of those runs was earned. Eric Lehn and John Mohror came on in relief and held the Warriors to just one run the rest of the way.

The Cardinals were held to just three hits in the game. Dalton Leuschke had two, and Karl Brezina finished with one.

The opener was a different story as Alexandria used seven hits and solid defensive play to secure the win. Shawn Krueger picked up his first varsity win on the mound. He threw a complete game, scattering seven hits, walking none and striking out two.

Zac Beireis led the offense with three hits. He scored once and drove in one, as well. Parker Giroux drew three walks and scored once.

The split moved the Cardinals to 6-6 overall and 5-4 in the Central Lakes Conference.
