The Alpha Pi Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Alexandria Technical College is participating in Project Graduation – Feed a Body, Feed a Mind, an initiative designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in the community.
Graduating students and their guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items or children’s books to the college graduation ceremony to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
Donation drop-off sites will be positioned at the entrances near the JHS gym, where the ceremony is taking place. After the graduation ceremony, the books will be given to Someplace Safe and food items will be donated to the Outreach Food Shelf.
“Such a simple gesture of bringing a canned good or book to our commencement ceremony will help improve the quality of life in our community,” said Alex Tech President Kevin Kopischke, “We are excited to have this opportunity.”
“As student leaders within our college, we are pleased to be at the helm of this initiative,” said Eric Karlstad, chapter advisor. “We are proud to give graduating students an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported them throughout their community college experience.”
