More than 700 graduates from Alexandria Technical College will be acknowledged at the 48th annual commencement program on Friday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Commencement will be held in the Jefferson High School gymnasium at 1401 Jefferson Street in Alexandria. During the ceremony, outstanding students from each program will be presented with merit awards.

The college enrolls more than 2,100 students annually in more than 50 programs offering certificates, diplomas, associate in science degrees, associate in applied science degrees, and online degrees.

This year, Lisa Tvrdik will deliver the address. Originally from Ellendale, North Dakota, Tvrdik has made the Alexandria area her home since graduating from Alexandria Technical College’s aquaculture program in 1995.

As a full-time employee of Alexandria Extrusion Company for more than 10 years, Tvrdik saw an opportunity for advancement. She knew obtaining advanced skills in machining would improve her chances of securing the position she wanted. Therefore, she enrolled in Alexandria Technical College’s Machine Tool Technology program.

Tvrdik is attending college fulltime and working a full-time job while maintaining her status on the dean’s list every semester. Moreover, she finds time to give back by tutoring other students. Her dedication and hard work were rewarded when she obtained the position she was pursuing.

Ruth Grendahl, vice chair, will represent the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System Board of Trustees and assist with the presentation of degrees.

Family and friends of graduates are invited to attend the ceremony. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for seating. There will be chairs set up on the floor in the back for the elderly and people with disabilities on a first-come first-served basis.
