Minnewaska girls' softball team extends winning streak to 13
After losing their opening game to Paynesville, the defending West Central South Conference champion Minnewaska Lakers have reeled off 13 straight victories for a 13-1 record and the lead in the conference.
The Lakers picked up three wins late last week, winning both halves of a doubleheader with Montevideo and adding another win over Benson-Hancock.
Laura Paulson earned the pitching win against the Thunder Hawks in the opener as she struck out seven and scattered six hits.
The Lakers were tied at 1-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth before Minnewaska rallied with five hits for three runs and the win.
In game two, Minnewaska’s Alicia Pfeninger pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out nine in a 3-0 victory.
Paulson, Jordan Stalker and Breanna Jenks each had two hits.
Paulson won the pitchers’ duel in Minnewaska’s game against Benson-Hancock Friday as the Lakers edged the Brave Owls 2-1.
The Laker hurler struck out seven and allowed four hits, while Benson-Hancock’s Taylor Semmler allowed five hits and had just one strikeout.
Minnewaska’s game winning run came in the third inning as Abby Kreitlow singled, stole second and advanced on a ground out before coming home on Jordan Stalker’s ground-ball single.
