Boys' golf: Second team fifth at Benson

The Alexandria boys’ golf team showed its team depth by sending a second group of players to the Benson Invite on Saturday.

The Alexandria boys’ golf team showed its team depth by sending a second group of players to the Benson Invite on Saturday.

The Cardinal team, made up of one junior and five sophomores, finished fifth at the invite with a score of 349. Brian Robley carded an 81 for seventh place individually. Jake Bigger shot an 88, while Tyler Bloedorn and Shawn Sahli rounded out the scorers for Alexandria with an 89 and 91, respectively.

“This was a good experience for these five sophomores and one junior to play against mostly varsity teams,” head coach Rick Larson said. “Benson is a short but very tight course and proved to be challenging to several players. Most of them had never seen the course before, so it was a new experience.

“Brian Robley finished his last four holes five over par, so he was playing very well until then. I think when these players get over the jitters of playing varsity they will be good contributors to the varsity some day.”

Litchfield won the meet with a 318.

West Central Area and Osakis also took part in the meet. The Knights finished 16th out of the 21-team field. They came in with a team score of 407. The Silverstreaks shot a 412 for a 18th-place finish.
