Cards top Tech 8-1
The Cardinal baseball teamed moved over the .500 mark for the first time this season with an 8-1 win over St. Cloud Tech last Thursday night.
Alexandria used a strong start from Derek Miller and a six-run sixth inning to run away with the game. Miller gave the Cardinals everything they could ask for on the mound. He allowed just two hits in a complete game performance, striking out five.
Alexandria needed that for most of the game. The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first inning on a two-out single by Karl Brezina. They did not score again until the sixth when they broke the game open. Tyler Iverson got the big hit of the inning with a two-run double.
Brezina led the team with three hits on the day. Colin Erickson had two hits, including a double. Zac Beireis did his job out of the leadoff spot, coaxing three walks and scoring twice.
The win moved the Cardinals to 4-3, both overall and in the Central Lakes Conference.
