Girls' golf: A tale of two days

From rainy and miserable to sunny and beautiful, the Cardinal girls' golf team played in both types of weather last week as they hosted the Alexandria Invitational Wednesday and the Geneva Invitational Saturday.

The Minnewaska girls’ golf team almost lost a meet for the first time in years in some miserable conditions at the Alexandria Invite last Wednesday.

A steady and cold rain came down on the players throughout the round, but the Lakers persevered for a first-place finish. They tied with Wayzata with a team score of 176, but won a fifth-score tiebreaker with Allie Ostrander’s 49.

Alexandria finished fourth with a 197. Maggie Leland led the Cardinals with a 45. The meet was called after nine holes because of the weather conditions.

Minnewaska’s Sam Falk and Emily Roering tied with Albany’s Alyssa Kalthoff for first place individually. All three players carded rounds of 42. The Lakers’ Sarah Roering and Brianna Janu both kept their scores in the 40s, carding a 45 and 47, respectively.

The Cardinals’ Beckah Ripley and Maxine Carlson also battled the conditions to each shoot a round of 49. Caroline Roers was the fourth scorer for Alexandria with a 54.
