Card baseball team splits with Storm

The Alexandria baseball team split a doubleheader with Sauk Rapids on Tuesday night with a 10-2 win in the nightcap after losing 5-4 in the opener.

The Cardinals scored all 10 of their runs through the first two innings of game two. That made things easy for starter Colin Erickson, who went five innings, allowing one run on just two hits.

Zac Beireis and Dylan Carlson each had three hits to lead the offense. Dalton Leuschke, Erickson and Ross Thompson also contributed with two apiece.

The Cardinals had their chances to break the game open in game one, as well. Alexandria left the bases loaded in both the sixth and seventh inning as the Sauk Rapids’ pitchers wiggled out of jams to secure the win.

Karl Brezina followed up his three-run walk-off home run performance against Sartell-St. Stephen last Thursday with a three hit game in the opener. Erickson also had another good game at the plate with two hits.

Shawn Krueger started and took the loss for Alexandria. He worked four innings before giving way to Walker Giroux and Kyle Bany. The Cardinals out hit the Storm 10-8 but could not get the one they needed in the late innings.

The split kept Alexandria at .500 on the season with a 3-3 record.
