Osakis edges Tigers in softball

The Osakis softball team swept a doubleheader with Browerville to stay undefeated in the Prairie Conference last Friday.

The Silverstreaks had to hold off the Tigers late in the nightcap before winning 9-8 after taking the opener 11-0 in five innings.

Osakis jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a half inning in game two. The Silverstreaks added two more in the fourth and looked like they were going to run away with it. Browerville responded by scoring eight unanswered runs through the next three innings. That put them three outs away from a great comeback win as the Tigers took an 8-7 lead into the seventh.

Osakis answered back with a rally of its own in the top of the seventh as the Silverstreaks scored twice to retake the lead. Sabrina Zimmel then closed the door in the seventh to secure the win. Zimmel gave up all eight runs but only two of those were earned after four Osakis errors in the game.

Hailey Rajdl had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Kayla Maus also collected two hits.

The opener featured no such comeback by the Tigers as Osakis jumped out early and never looked back. The Silverstreaks used a seven-run third inning to break things open. Kelsey Proell ended it in the fifth with a two-run home run.

Zimmel was dominant in throwing the complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits, while striking out 10.

The sweep moved Osakis to 5-0 in the Prairie Conference and 8-1 overall.
