Arrow girls top Ortonville in softball, fall to New York Mills
Three days after scoring 20 runs in an easy win over Ortonville, the Ashby softball team’s offense was held at bay in a 5-3 loss to New York Mills.
The Eagles held the Arrows to just five hits and broke out for 10 themselves to secure the win. Ashby held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. New York Mills responded by scoring four in the half inning on three hits and two walks. That gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
“The girls played well against a strong New York Mills team,” head coach Joey Andreasen said. “I was proud of the way they kept their composure and were able to get out of innings when the Eagles threatened on the bases. They played a great game but didn’t collect enough hits to get the win.”
Andrea Moe had a big day for Ashby with two hits and three RBIs. Amanda Johnson also went 2-for-3, with Haley Ness picking up the final hit.
It was the first loss of the season for the Arrows, who fell to 5-1 overall.
