Knight tracksters compete at Breckenridge, Barnesville
The West Central Area boys’ and girls’ track and field teams both finished seventh at the K.T. Smith track meet in Breckenridge last Thursday.
The girls got a first-place finish from seventh grader Kylee Fernholz in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:40.64.
“Our coaches are really excited about this young lady and what she is going to accomplish this season,” head coach Luke Erickson said.
Hillary Anderson also helped the Knights with a second-place finish in the 800, finishing in 2:35.35.
“Both Hillary and her twin sister Megan are huge assets to our program and do a very good job of training hard and racing wherever they are needed,” Erickson said. “Megan did a nice job running a leg of our fifth place 4x800-meter relay team.”
Beau Kashmark did the most damage on the boys’ side with a first-place finish in the high jump and second in the triple jump. Donny Lacey finished fourth in the high jump, while Kyle Toms continues to run strong in the 1,600-meter run with a third-place finish in 4:55.08.
“This is Beau’s first year out since seventh grade,” Erickson said. “He is doing a nice job for us. Our senior captain, Donny Lacey, who competes in most of the same events as Beau, has done an outstanding job of helping him along this season. Donny is one of those people you need to have around to have a successful program.”
