Cards avenge loss to Otters

n a turnaround from Saturday’s matchup, the Cardinal softball team avenged its 6-1 loss to Fergus Falls with a 4-0 shutout Tuesday night in Alexandria.

In a turnaround from Saturday’s matchup, the Cardinal softball team avenged its 6-1 loss to Fergus Falls with a 4-0 shutout Tuesday night in Alexandria.

Dany Bany pitched a seven-hit shutout, striking out five along the way.

Kate Gearman got the Cardinals on the board in the first inning as she singled, stole second, then scored on an RBI double by Courtney Richardson.

In the fourth inning, Alexandria stretched its lead to two as Bany walked and Jenell Faber pinch ran for her. Faber then scored on an error by the Otter third baseman.

The third Redbird run scored in the fifth as Richardson doubled, then scored on a ground out by Bany.

The final run was plated in the sixth as Dale doubled, then scored on an RBI single by Allie Thul.

Shenae Morical added two hits and provided a strong game for the Cardinals behind the plate.

“Bany was very strong on the mound,” said head coach Bob Cunniff. “The defense was also very strong. They played flawless in the field and had no errors.”

Alexandria is now 2-2 in Central Lakes Conference play and 3-3 overall.

They have a doubleheader at home with Sauk Rapids on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
