Alpine skiers hand out awards
Salscheider named Lakes Area skier MVP
The Lakes Area alpine ski team finally got its season-ending awards banquet in after it had been delayed twice by snowstorms.
It was worth the wait for Hannah Salscheider, who went home as the team’s most valuable player on Monday night. Matt Syverson and Brianna Warren were recognized with Coach’s Leadership Awards, while Tess Boucher was named the team’s most improved skier.
Head Coach Jon Buettner recognized three seniors from Alexandria in Salscheider, Syverson and Warren. All three served as captains this season.
Buettner also recognized Luke Sandwick for his state-tournament appearance this year. Sandwick finished 14th individually at the Section 5 meet to advance to the state level.
The Lakes Area alpine ski team involves students from Alexandria, Fergus Falls, West Central Area, Wheaton, Herman-Norcross and Lang Homeschool. Anyone interested in learning more about the program can contact Buettner at (877) 542-6337.
