For the fourth consecutive year, KSAX/KRWF is proud to be the area’s media partner of the Jefferson Awards for Public Service.

The Jefferson Awards are a prestigious national recognition system honoring community and public service in America and are presented at local and national levels.

Locally, honorees are selected from nominations of ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary achievements without expectation of recognition or reward.

The recipients of national awards are selected from the local levels and represent a cross-section of outstanding Americans.

For 2009, six nominees have been chosen from the nominations received. KSAX/KRWF wishes to congratulate the following nominees: Nancy Adams of Pequot Lakes, Iras Chapin of Motley, Alveda Rhude of Barrett, James Schoeberl of Alexandria, Pauline Segaar of Brooten and Geoffrey Steiner of Cushing.

The 2009 Honorable Mention recipients are Jan Arneson of Glenwood, Darlene Christensen of Kensington, Stephan Giambi of Starbuck, Clinton Grove of Elbow Lake, Neuman Huse of Ashby, Larry Johnson of Appleton, Kathryn LeBrasseur of Alexandria, Lois Maher of Glenwood, LaDean Moen of Alexandria, Mary Olson of Alexandria, Mary Lou Quistorff of Osakis, John Sells of Sauk Centre, Sandy Susag of Alexandria and Autumn Vaughn of Alexandria.

The Jefferson Awards were created to recognize volunteers from high school students through senior citizens. Only individuals are considered for nominations but couples who work together as a team can be nominated.

KSAX/KRWF thanked Bremer Bank, Alexandria Technical College and Ottertail Power Company for their sponsorship of the 2009 Jefferson Awards.

KSAX/KRWF Meteorologist Mark Anthony will be joining Heidi Willemssen as hosts of the 2009 Jefferson Awards Gala for nominees and their families on Thursday, April 23 at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria.

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie will be the keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony.
