Rainbow Rider, the public transit system that provides bus service in and around the Douglas County region, is rolling back one of its rates.

Starting May 1, Rainbow Rider will charge customers 50 cents less for a one-way trip in the zero to five-mile category.

The rate will drop from $2.50 to $2, effective May 1.

Fares will stay the same for all other categories.

Started in 1995, Rainbow Rider offers bus service to any destination within the four-county area of Douglas, Pope, Stevens and Traverse.

According to the American Public Transportation Association’s website, public transportation use in the U.S. saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline annually. This represents almost 4 million gallons per day.

In addition, public transportation use throughout the U.S. saves the equivalent of 300,000 fewer automobile fill-ups every day.

To arrange a ride, contact Rainbow Rider at either 1-800-450-7770 or (320) 283-5061.
