Karolyn was born May 3, 1937 in Dent to Charles and Matilda (Trick) Stender. She attended school in Elizabeth through the 8th grade. Karolyn then moved to Minneapolis with her sister, Charlotte, and worked at a boarding house. A few years later she moved back to Elizabeth to help her parents farm.
Karolyn was united in marriage to Arnold Nord on July 16, 1960. To this union five children were born. The family lived in Rothsay and Karolyn was a homemaker. In 1961, they moved to Alexandria, where she continued to be a homemaker, but also worked for a few years as a dietary aid at Bethany Home.
Karolyn enjoyed going to garage sales, bargain shopping, and meeting and visiting with friends.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (Kim) Nord of Alexandria, Kim Nord of Alexandria, Scott Nord of Alexandria and Craig (Julie) Nord of Shakopee; grandchildren, Dustin of Grand Forks, and Nick and Katie of Shakopee; brothers and sisters, Gladys (Kenny) Elberling of Ashby, Charlotte Johnson of Minneapolis, Lila Rossnow of Coon Rapids, Joyce (Lyle) Uhlig of Erhard, Margaret (Glen) Laugen of Fergus Falls, Charles Stender of Pelican Rapids, Kenny (Diane) Stender of Fergus Falls, Clem (Betty) Stender of Albert Lea and Betty (Jerome) Halvorson of Duluth; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Matilda; husband, Arnold; son, Bruce; and brother, Lloyd Stender.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 21 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. John Peshek officiating. Music was provided by organist, Randy Morken. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery. Casket bearers were Brian Laugen, David Nord, Keith Stender, Clayton Nord, Larry Johnson and Jim Dresch. Honorary casket bearer was Wayne Stender.
