Piepenburg sets school record in 3,200

The Cardinal freshman marks fastest time in Minnesota so far this season

Alexandria’s Jamie Piepenburg continues to solidify herself as one of the top distance runners in the state as only a freshman.

Piepenburg set a new school record with her time of 10:52.42 in the 3,200-meter run to pace the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish at the Moorhead Athletic Association Invitational last Friday. The sub-11 minute time is the fastest run in the state of Minnesota in the 3,200 so far this season.

Tess Boucher was also not far behind in the race, finishing third with a time of 11:58.02.

Rosey Erickson also had a huge day for Alexandria. Erickson contributed to four first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, the long jump and running the anchor in the 4x100-meter relay team. Annie Trebelhorn, Amber Tebben and Nikki Hammond joined her in the relay.

“It was a great team effort for the lady Cards against some very good teams,” head coach Mike Empting said. “We knew that Piepenburg and Erickson would be big point getters for us coming into the season, but right now, we have so many girls upping their effort and competing for top places.”

The Cardinals had a number of girls place in the top five. Gloria Head had a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, while Trebelhorn finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 33’5.75”. Chelsey Richardson placed fourth and fifth in the 1,600 and 800-meter runs, respectively.
