Dani Bany’s one-hitter, coupled with a seven-hit offensive output for the Cardinals, broke a two-game losing streak for the Cardinals as they topped Little Falls 5-0 in Central Lakes Conference play at home.

“The story of this game was Dani Bany’s one-hitter,” said Card head coach Bob Cunniff. “The Flyers only hit came with two out in the sixth on a solid single.

“The defensive gem of the night was turned in by Ally Teclaw as she made a spectacular running catch in left center.”

Bany’s mound appearance saw her walk just two batters in the game while striking out three.

She also earned her keep on the offensive side, driving home the first run of the game as Teclaw came home on the Cardinal pitcher’s single in the first.

Teclaw also put forth a strong offensive effort as she delivered a two-out, two-run single to score Allie Thul and Gracie Bruzek.

Alicia Montbriand added a two-run single in the fifth, which drove in Courtney Richardson and Shenae Morical.

“Allie Thul played in her first varsity game and went 1-for-2, scored a run and stole 2 bases,” said Cunniff.

It was a cold outing for the Redbirds Saturday morning as they traveled to the Detroit Lakes Invitational, splitting their two contests.

Alexandria needed eight innings to put away West Fargo 5-4, after leading 4-1 in the top of the seventh.

West Fargo rallied to tie the game 4-4, forcing the extra stanza.

In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and Courtney Richardson at bat, the West Fargo pitcher tossed a wild pitch, allowing Bruzek to score the winning run from third.

Alexandria got on the scoreboard early as Teclaw and Morical both hit RBI singles in the first.

In the fourth, the Cards scored twice on a throwing error, which allowed Thul and Bruzek to cross the plate.

Thul led the offense with three hits and one RBI apiece, while Morical added two hits and an RBI.

Teclaw and Bany each had one hit with two runs batted in, while Montbriand had one hit and Richardson had a hit and a run scored.

Bany’s pitching victory included three strikeouts and three walks, along with nine hits and four runs.
