Cardinal tennis team is now 3-0

The Cardinals shut out St. Cloud Apollo in CLC tennis

The Alexandria boys’ tennis team cruised to its third straight win to start the season with a 7-0 victory over St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday night.

Reggie Ronning, Connor Illies, Luke Eberly and Kevin Desautels all picked up straight-set wins in the singles lineup. The only three-set victory for the Cardinals came at No. 1 doubles where Jake Otterness and Marvin Wensman had to overcome a 3-6 loss in the second to win 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

It was the first time Otterness and Wensman had played together this season. Desautels also moved to the No. 4 singles spot as the Cardinals search for their best lineup.

“We are still playing around with our lineup and trying new things to see what will work and what won’t,” head coach Dave Ronning said. “Our guys are versatile, and we want to utilize their strengths as much as possible.”

Ben LeVahn moved over to No. 3 doubles with Jeremy Rapp and came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Cody Nelson and Matt Peterson also won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.

The win moved Alexandria to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Central Lakes Conference.
