Connor Illies was recognized for a strong season this past winter as the lone Alexandria representative on the All-Central Lakes Conference boys’ basketball team.

Illies was one of four award winners at the Cardinals end of the season awards banquet, which was held recently.

Steve Conley came away with the Hustle Award, while Matt Peterson was named the team’s defensive most valuable player. Dan Gorghuber was recognized for the steps he has taken to get better on the court, as well. He went home with the Most Improved Player Award.

Alexandria had a season of ups and downs in a year that saw the Cardinals finish 7-18 and 4-14 in the CLC. They started the season 2-0 but went on to lose 15 of their next 16 games. The Cardinals broke out of that slump with a four-game winning streak with wins over Rocori, Moorhead, Fergus Falls and Sartell-St. Stephen.

Alexandria went into the Section 8AAAA tournament as the No. 7 seed and fell to a second seeded Buffalo 60-40 in the opening round.
