Donations to the Alexandria Area YMCA will be doubly important in the next few weeks.
YMCA leaders reported Wednesday that several of its Legacy gift contributors have once again stepped up to the plate and are collectively offering a Challenge Match Gift Program for potential YMCA donors.
To date, $245,000 has been pledged as a dollar-for-dollar match for all gifts given to support the YMCA “Complete the Dream” capital campaign, meaning that all gifts given will be doubled due to the challenge match.
The YMCA has presently raised $8,050,000 from 671 donors and is continuing its capital campaign to reach the original goal of $8,885,000.
To make a donation or pledge to the YMCA, call (320) 763-9621 or visit the site, www.AlexandriaYMCA.com.
YMCA leaders say they’re confident that with the latest match program in place, community and area residents will rise to the challenge.
The YMCA board of directors recently decided to move forward with construction of the proposed 56,000-square-foot program center and is committed to raising the remaining dollars necessary.
The YMCA will unveil the revised campaign in early May, however, felt it was important to announce the challenge match program at this time due to the growing interest of individuals and businesses that would like to contribute at this time.
All gifts given beginning as of April 6 will be included in the challenge match program. The YMCA anticipates that the challenge match dollars available will increase over the course of the next few weeks, providing additional incentive to contribute to the YMCA.
The YMCA project will begin construction within the next week.
The public is encouraged to attend a groundbreaking ceremony set for Wednesday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. on the YMCA site near county roads 82 and 45. A shuttle bus will be available from Tastefully Simple’s east parking lot.
