The JHS Parents Advisory Council (PAC) annually sponsors a variety of events and activities to celebrate students, while emphasizing the importance of making smart choices in their lives.
The JHS Student Council, students, parent volunteers and staff help with the week-long celebration. This year’s theme was “Health, Sports and Fitness.”
March Madness kicked off with a morning trivia contest, with the winning class receiving breakfast delivered to the classroom.
The daily “Cardinal Cash Cab” offered a chance for two students to win up to $30 in cash (provided by PAC) for correct answers to trivia questions related to this year’s theme.
A “Jay Walking” question game was included, along with daily dress up days, and a display of “This or That” foods and nutrition, furnished by local fast food businesses.
On Thursday, students heard Mike Max, WCCO sports reporter, speak on his personal observations and experiences in sports and health related-fields, and the results of choices made.
Friday featured a surprise guest speaker – Brock Lesnar, Ultimate Fighting Champsionship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion. Lesnar spoke on responsibility to yourself and others, choices made and their consequences, and setting goals.
Lesnar emphatically stated, “I have never tried drugs,” exemplifying the goals of making smart choices in everyday life.
The PAC exists to support the District 206 mission of achieving excellence and inspiring a lifelong passion for learning and JHS service commitment of providing an environment of respect and support; a vision for a learning community; and a culture of hard work and success.
