Marjorie Van Gorp was honored with the Alexandria Elks Lodge’s “Distinguished Citizenship Award.”
The annual award is the lodge’s highest honor given to a citizen, according to Tom Byrne, exalted ruler of the Alexandria Elks.
Van Gorp, a history column writer for the Echo Press and a member of the Spruce Hill Church Board, was honored for her work in keeping residents informed of local history.
The inscription on the plaque reads that the award is presented for “outstanding, meritorious service to humanity.”
The award was announced at the Elks’ annual awards banquet Saturday.
