Minnesota Modified Nationals at Viking Speedway July 2-5

The Minnesota Modified Nationals will be on the slate for Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 with a rain date for Sunday, July 5 at 1 p.m. if necessary and an open practice session on Thursday, July 2 from 6-9 p.m. at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria.

This year’s biggest paying Modified event in the entire Midwest will see each Modified racer draw for his or her starting position on Friday night for a scheduled set of eight heat races.

The winner of each heat race will automatically redraw among themselves for the top eight starting spots in Friday night’s qualifying feature, just as in previous years.

This year, as in 2007 and 2008, passing points will be used to qualify the second set of eight drivers for the feature on Friday night.

The driver who is highest in passing points in each individual heat race will qualify for the main event and will redraw among themselves for starting spots 9-16.

The finish in the qualifying feature will determine the top eight rows for Saturday night’s main event.

Midwest Modifieds will be on the card as a support class and will again run a complete $500-to-win show each night of the Mod Nationals.

One final change to the program will see the WISSOTA Super Stocks on the card with a full program each night, racing for $500-to-win as well.

The Street Stocks have put on great shows over the past several seasons at the Mod Nationals, but with the declining numbers in the area and the fact that the Super Stocks have waited patiently in the wings, both facts played into the changes that were made. Both support classes will utilize the draw/redraw format each day.

A huge city of Alexandria fireworks display will take place on Saturday night, July 4 immediately following the conclusion of the 50-lap feature.
