The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has announced an extension o fhte deadline for online submission of comments regarding a proposed ethical framework for allocating scarce medical resources in a pandemic.

The new deadline for submission of comments is April 13. The deadline was extended in response to concerns expressed by stakeholders who hadn’t yet had an opportunity to comment.

The public can view and comment on the framework document at www.ahc.umn.edu/mnpanflu/. As of March 15, 115 individuals and organization s had commented on the proposed ethics recommendations since the Web site went live in late January.

The recommendations were developed by a specially-convened panel of Minnesotans, with the support of experts in a variety of fields. The recommendations are posted in two parts: a report outlining the panel’s recommendations and a separate document outlining recommendations for implementation.

The project was organized by the Minnesota Center for Health Care Ethics (MCHCE) and the University of Minnesota Center for Bioethics, under a contract with MDH.
