Plans to build a new community-based outpatient clinic for veterans in Alexandria are marching ahead.
Plans to build a new community-based outpatient clinic for veterans in Alexandria are marching ahead.
The St. Cloud Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center has awarded a contract to Moniclair Commons, LLC, of Alexandria for a 10-year lease of the new facility.
ORB Management, of Alexandria, is the developer, design/builder. JLG Architects of Alexandria is the project architect.
The clinic, expected to open in September 2009, will be located at 515 22nd Avenue East in Alexandria, southeast of Nyberg Surveying.
It will provide primary care to an estimated 3,500 veterans in central Minnesota.
A variety of additional VA services will also be available including mental health, clinical pharmacy, laboratory, nutrition services and home-based primary care for those veterans who are eligible for that service.
“The Alexandria area was identified as a priority for a new clinic as part of the VA’s effort to reach rural and medically underserved veteran populations. We are pleased to be moving forward with this effort to serve veterans in the Alexandria area,” said Barry Bahl, Medical Center director.
The 9,915-square-foot clinic will be staffed with more than 16 VA staff members. Professional staff will include physicians, an advanced practice nurse, a pharmacist, a psychologist, a social worker, a registered dietitian and several registered nurses.
Other positions include clinical and administrative support personnel.
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the site of the new clinic at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 16. The public is welcome to attend.
