The Woman’s Club of Alexandria has recognized Janice Shogren as the “Empowering Woman.”

She will be recognized at the State Convention of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Minnesota.

The award is given to a woman in recognition of her leadership and contributions to her club and community.

Shogren has been a strong leader in making the local club, which was organized in 1899, a vital and active player in the GFWC arena of programming and currently serves as president.

She also contributes greatly to all facets of community life, having served as president of the Douglas County Historical Society and Douglas County Cemetery Association and as chair of the Forada Centennial.

Shogren is a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she is a leader in the Women’s Fellowship group and has chaired the Community Education program called “Lifetime Learning.”

She is perhaps most visible in her involvement with the arts. She organized and manages the Runestone Rockettes, an over 60 dance line that performs in community events and at rest homes to enhance the vision of aging.

As a leader in these many roles, Shogren has finely developed the leadership skill of “empowering women” to be active participants in volunteer roles that enhance life for all.
