The Alexandria boys’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 65-60 loss at Little Falls last Friday night.
The Flyers were able to control the glass for much of the first half and create a number of second-chance opportunities. That helped them build a seven-point lead at the break.
The Cardinals began to find some offense in the second as they came back to grab a one-point lead midway through the half. The two teams exchanged leads from there, but Little Falls was able to pull away down the stretch for a five-point win.
“I felt like we played fairly well for a majority of the game,” head coach Forrest Witt said. “Our breakdowns and miscues were exposed on the defensive end. Our understanding and ability to value each possession has improved, but we still need to limit some mental lapses.
“As a whole, I think we can take some positive things from this game. From here on out, it’s one and done, so we need to be especially sharp mentally.”
Alexandria opens up the Section 8AAAA Tournament tomorrow, Thursday, when they travel to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. tip off. The Cardinals enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed with a 7-17 overall record.
The Bison enter as the No. 2 seed with a 21-5 record. They defeated the Cardinals on January 20 in a 65-51 game in Alexandria.
