ATC students compete at SkillsUSA event

Alexandria Technical College recently recognized several students who competed at the local SkillsUSA competition at an awards ceremony.
SkillsUSA is a nationwide partnership of business and industry, vocational students and instructors. Its goals are to motivate students, teach leadership skills, assist teachers in producing quality occupations training, and provide quality workers to business and industry.
Students who received top awards are eligible to compete at the state competitions held in March and April. Students enrolled in the carpentry, concrete mason, diesel mechanics, fluid power technology, mechatronics, law enforcement, machine assembly specialist, machine tool technology, manufacturing engineering technician, marine and small engine mechanic, welding technology, and mechanical drafting, design and engineering programs were eligible to compete in 24 categories.
Following are the local winners:
• Machine trades blueprint reading – 3rd place, Mark Anderson of Alexandria (machine tool technology); 1st place high school division, Ross Feiler of Alexandria (mechanical drafting, design and engineering).
• Trade math – 1st place, Anderson; 1st place, high school division, Feiler.
• Related technical math –1st place, Anderson; 1st place high school division, Ross Feiler.
• CNC milling – 2nd place, Christopher Allguire of Alexandria (machine tool technology).
• Motorcycle service technology – 3rd place, Adam Pitcher of Carlos (marine and small engine mechanic).
• Precision machining technology – honorable mention, Anderson.
• Technical drafting – 1st Place, high school division, Feiler.
• Welding – 3rd place, Matthew Nygaard of Farwell (welding technology).
• Diesel equipment technology, 1st place, high school division, Dominic Gergen of Osakis (diesel mechanics).
• Masonry – 1st place, Mike Shrode of Osakis (masonry).
