Card boys' basketball: Alexandria tops Sabres, fall to Lakers
Alexandria won four straight before falling to Detroit Lakes
The Cardinal boys’ basketball team picked up its fourth straight win last Friday night with a 72-58 win over Sartell-St. Stephen.
Alexandria dominated the glass, outrebounding the Sabres by 15. The Cardinals jumped out early and built a 20-point lead by the break. That was too much for the Sabres to overcome as the Cardinals’ recent hot stretch continued.
Connor Illies has been dominant for Alexandria during the four-game winning streak. He continued that with 20 points against the Sabres. Steve Conley also had a big game with 19 points, while Joe Hurlbut chipped in 12.
The Cardinals moved to 7-15 with the win and 4-13 in the Central Lakes Conference.
Saturday, Alexandria’s win streak came to an end as they fell to Detroit Lakes 72-67 in non-conference action. Details of the game were not available at press time.
