Speech team takes honors

The Alexandria speech team is at mid-season and has many achievements to be proud of at this point.

Several team members won All-Conference honors at the CLC Tournament at Apollo on February 19. Katelyn Steffel won 3rd in Poetry Interpretation; Amanda Peck won 3rd in Great Speeches; Alex Blaser and Caroline Roers won 2nd in Dramatic Duo; Katie Lovrien won 6th in Discussion.

Each speaker competed in three rounds, with the top six in each of 13 categories winning CLC honors.

The team took 1st place at the Swanville Invitational on February 14. Ten schools competed. Top finishers for Alexandria were Katelyn Steffel, 1st, Poetry; Amanda Peck, 1st, Great Speeches; Candace Kallevig and Katie Basiago, 2nd and 3rd in Storytelling; Colin Ryan, 1st, Extemporaneous Speaking.

The speech team opened the season at the Sauk Rapids Invitational on February 7, finishing sixth out of 31 schools. In Dramatic Duo, the Discovery Middle School team of Roers and Blaser took 3rd place. Hayley Thull took 6th in Creative Expression, Erica Fulghum took 6th in Great Speeches, Katie Lovrien took 7th in Discussion, and Katelyn Steffel received the 1st place medallion in Poetry Interpretation out of 32 contestants.
