Season ends for Card gymnasts

Sarah Sater led Alexandria to ninth place in the Section 8AA meet, Sue Thelen is named 8AA coach of the year

    Jenna Kremer scored a 5.425 on the bars for the Cardinals during the Section 8AA gymnastics meet at St. Cloud Tech Saturday. The Cardinals were ninth overall in the competition.

The Alexandria gymnastics team saw its season come to an end this past Saturday with a ninth-place finish at the Section 8AA tournament.

St. Cloud Tech hosted the event and advanced to the state tournament with a first-place finish. The Tigers finished with a score of 148.8. Brainerd took second place, while Monticello rounded out the top three. Alexandria finished with a team score of 118.5.

Sarah Sater paced the Cardinals with an eighth-place finish on the beam and was recognized with the top 10 on the podium. Sater scored an 8.7 on her beam routine and also led Alexandria in the vault with an 8.7.

Sarah Dolan paced the Cardinals on the bars with a 6.2, and Anna Spanbauer scored an 8.025 on her floor routine.

Alexandria head coach Sue Thelen was honored as the Section 8AA coach of the year for her role in leading a very young Cardinals team this season.

“We have seen tremendous growth in all our gymnasts,” Thelen said. “Each day, practice proved exciting to watch the progress in our girls. The girls chose to work hard and make the most of their time in the gym. Great things are in store for this team of girls.”
