The Minnesota State Patrol says a pickup truck driving behind a snow plow on a two-lane highway in west central Minnesota crashed Saturday into a car coming the opposite way, killing three family members in the auto.

According to the State Patrol report, visibility was poor because of the snowfall when the accident happened about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 71 near the border of Renville and Kandiyohi counties.

The State Patrol said the 1997 Chevrolet pickup was going south, trailing the plow, moments before it entered the northbound lane and collided with a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria sedan.

According to the State Patrol, those killed in the automobile were: Fred Kingstrom, 89, and Ebba Kingstrom, 83, of Sacred Heart, Minn., and daughter Andrea Kingstrom, 44, of Bird Island, Minn.

Ebba Kingstrom died at the scene, while Fred and Andrea Kingstrom were flown to Hennepin County Medical Center and died there, the family told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

The driver of the car was Mark F. Kingstrom, 54, of Sacred Heart, a son of the Kingstroms. He was slightly injured.

The pickup driver was Daniel T. Kadlec, 28, of Kandiyohi, Minn. He was slightly injured.

The Kingstrom family was heading north from Sacred Heart on a roughly 40-mile trip to Willmar, Minn., to join other relatives to celebrate the 50th birthday of another Kingstrom daughter, Diane.
