A snowmobile run is planned this Saturday in memory of a former Alexandria resident who was killed at the Sherburne County Jail on August 8, 2006.

Carl Moyle had been placed in the low-security area of the jail on a misdemeanor traffic charge when he was attacked by a prisoner, who later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Moyle’s favorite winter sport was snowmobiling. His father, Larry Moyle, who passed away in May of 2008, was instrumental in establishing the Carl Moyle Memorial Fund.

Proceeds from the snowmobile run will go toward the fund to provide scholarships and toys for needy children.

The second annual event is set for Saturday, February 21. It will begin with registration at the Forada Supper Club, 1380 County Road 4 SE, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Coffee, juice and donuts will be provided.

A silent auction will begin at 4:30 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and a dance will start at 7 p.m. Dennis Dalman, columnist with the Echo Press, will be a special guest at the event.

The cost is $35 and includes the ride, lunch and buffet dinner, and a dance. Other options include: buffet dinner and dance – $15; buffet dinner only – $12; and dance only – $5.

Door prizes will be awarded. For more information, call (320) 815-8973.

Donations may also be sent to Carl Moyle Memorial Fund, c/o Neighborhood National Bank, 803 North Nokomis NE, Alexandria, MN 56308.

Moyle, the son of Larry and Clara Moyle of Rose City, was a 1996 graduate of Parkers Prairie High School and also lived in Alexandria for a time. He worked at Arrowwood Resort as a cook, Steinbring dealership as a detailer, and Color Glo International of Alexandria.
