Two representatives from a company based in Tokyo, Japan toured the Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management facility in Alexandria on February 5.
The visitors were Chris J. Wahlstrom and Hirofumi Inoue, directors of Industrial Decisions, Inc, a part of the Mizho Financial Group.
They were chosen to recommend a technology for a proposed waste-to-energy facility in Japan.
Out of a total of 98 such facilities in the United States, Wahlstrom and Inoue will be touring eight. PDSWM was the first stop of the eight facilities chosen.
“Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management was chosen because of our unique grate design of no moving parts in our waste combustors,” noted Pete Olmscheid, executive director. “Another reason PDSWM was chosen was because of our up front materials recycling facility that sorts recyclables and problem items from the waste before combustion.”
