Elk River upends Cardinal girls' hockey team
Alexandria dropped its third straight contest
The Cardinal girls’ hockey team dropped its third straight game on Tuesday night when it welcomed Elk River-Zimmerman to town.
Alexandria tied the game at 2-2 on a Rachael Finley goal 7:23 into the second period. The Elks then scored twice within 30 seconds of each other less than five minutes later to take control of the game on their way to a 6-2 win.
Elk River added two more goals in the third period to put the finishing touches on the win. The Cardinals found themselves down 2-0 early in the second period before Claire Illies scored the first of two unanswered goals for Alexandria. Finley’s goal a minute later tied the game but the Cardinals could not hold down the Elks’ offense the rest of the way.
The loss dropped Alexandria to 11-14 on the season.
