Rural Development offers money for upgrading sewer systems

USDA Rural Development is encouraging rural communities looking to upgrade water, sewer and storm water infrastructure to contact their local Rural Development office and begin the application process.
Rural Development has invested about $280 million since 2001 through its Water and Environmental Programs to upgrade water, sewer and storm water systems throughout Minnesota. Rural Development is accepting applications for the 2009 funding cycle and asking all rural communities with potential projects to get in touch with their local Rural Development office for more information.
All public bodies, Indian tribes and nonprofits with a service area of 10,000 residents or less qualify for funding. Examples of eligible projects include water towers, water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, pipes, treatment ponds and storm water systems.
